March 23, 2020 – The construction, aggregates and mining industries know a little something about respiratory protection. Masks are a normal part of our PPE. But due to the coronavirus, masks for the medical profession are in short supply. The state of Virginia is using what PPE supplies it can get from the federal stockpile. The Virginia Emergency Support Team is also tracking down alternative providers. They are in contact with suppliers who make masks used in mining and quarry operations. Those are the same grade as medical masks that can prevent those already infected from spreading the virus further. If you have a supply of masks at your operation, you might be able to help your local medical establishment.
